Avon 3Day Walk for Breast Cancer

In 2000, we walked 60 miles to support breast cancer prevention, research, and awareness programs.

Here's why we did it:

Recently our sister-in-law, Kristin Dudley, died from breast cancer. Her memorial service was held on what would have been her 40th birthday; she will not get to see her 10-year-old son grow up, graduate, or get married, and she will never know her grandchildren.

Although there was little we could do to help her, we are now joining the fight against breast cancer by making a big personal commitment: we're participating in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk on July 28 and committing to raise over $1800 each by June 30.

We'll be walking about 60 miles from San Jose to San Francisco in honor of Kristin's memory, and to support awareness, detection, and treatment programs. The net proceeds from the event will be distributed to organizations that run those programs by the Avon Products Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes.

Please support us and help millions of women by donating. Your donation is fully tax deductible, and you can even use the pledge form to charge donations to your credit card, or to spread your payments out over several months. When you consider how much to donate, please keep in mind how far we've committed to walk for this cause, and how many hours we'll be putting into fundraising and training. Our commitment is quite high.

Today, there are two million breast cancer survivors in the US. Still, over one million women in the US have breast cancer and don't know it, and they probably won't know for another five to eight years. That's why we're walking--to help make sure those women join the list of survivors.

Thank you for your generous help and support!

PS: Thanks to Maria's parents, who have agreed to babysit Ethan and Sam while we're walking!
